The Anchorage School District received notice today that the U.S. Department of Education has issued its final decision regarding ASD’s request for reconsideration of the defunding of the Fostering Diverse Schools (FDS) Grant. Our request was denied.

We know this funding has played a critical role in supporting the initial success of the Academies of Anchorage. In the coming weeks, our ASD leadership team will be meeting to discuss next steps and how we are going to move forward. 

We want to express our gratitude to our Alaskan congressional delegation and our community partners for their willingness to write letters of support for the FDS grant appeal. The community's continued support of the Academies of Anchorage is valuable to us and cannot be overstated. 

In regard to our Academy Coaches specifically, we value the work they are doing with our students, industry partners, and the district. We are committed to finding a solution as soon as possible that addresses the status of their current positions and the Academies of Anchorage work moving forward. 

We want to thank the community for their continued leadership and commitment to our students’ success.
